Premiership Football Conclusions: Week Twelve
Still no sight of Wayne Rooney, but we didn’t even need him. Another week of Premiership football jammed full of incident saw Manchester United narrowly avoid losing their first match, cross-town rivals Manchester City yet again fail to score at home, Spurs put their post Champions League lethargy to bed and Liverpool prove they’re still a long way from they’re best.
Manchester United draw merchants. Manchester United have gone unbeaten in their opening 13 league matches of the season for the first time under Sir Alex Ferguson but at what cost? The only unbeaten side in the top flight, United‘s narrow escape at Aston Villa, thanks to late goals from Federico Macheda and Nemanja Vidic, saw Sir Alex‘s side record their sixth draw of the campaign, a loss of 12 points. Manchester United trail Chelsea at the top of the table by six points. Interestingly Chelsea have lost twice but only tied once, at Aston Villa.
City can’t buy a goal at the Eastlands. If we were Manchester City season ticket holders we would demand our money back. The most expensively assembled squad in football has failed to score in four and a half hours at the their home ground. Arsenal, Manchester United and now Birmingham City have come to the Eastlands and departed with clean sheets. As of now Manchester City have the same number of points as they had this time last year. Was it really a step forward replacing Mark Hughes with Roberto Mancini?
