Premiership Football Conclusions: Week Fourteen
Another critical week in the Premier League saw Champions Chelsea lose their grip on top spot, Dimitar Berbatov finally justify his exorbitant transfer fee (?), Spurs steal points late… again, and Wolves win but stay in the bottom three.
Berbatov arrives. Forget Wayne Rooney. Manchester United found a new goal scoring sensation this weekend and he’s not into grannies. Dimitar Berbatov bagged an astounding five goals in United‘s 7-1 victory over Blackburn joining Andy Cole, Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe as the only Premiership players to reach the landmark. With Wayne Rooney yet to hit form following his injury layoff and controversial contract re-negotiations, the signs are ominous for the challenging pack.
Spurs steal fifth. Tottenham took a massive step toward unlocking the top four by defeating Liverpool 2-1. Aaron Lennon stole all three points for the North London side as his injury-time winner propelled Spurs to fifth place and within one point of fourth place Manchester City. Lennon‘s late strike marks the ninth time that Harry Redknapp‘s side have scored in the last five minutes of a match.
