January Transfers Signings: Hit or Miss?

January Transfers Signings: Hit or Miss?

David Luiz. Torres‘s fellow new recruit at Chelsea has enjoyed a much smoother transition to London since his arrival from Benfica. Eyebrows were raised when the Sideshow Bob look alike signed on for £20 million, but the Blues might have the last laugh. Possessing the perfect mix of athleticism and headless chicken, Luis looks set to be a mainstay in the Blues defence for a decade… that’s assuming Real or Barca don’t come knocking. Verdict: Hit, but conceding a last minute penalty against Fulham proves he’s not yet the finished article.

Edin Dzeko. The massive Bosnian striker has failed to find the back of the net in his five Premiership appearances. Blessed with an excellent touch for a big man and a keen eye for goal, Dzeko has already won over the hearts of the Manchester City faithful with his deflected strike against rivals Manchester United. Verdict: Miss. At £27 million and with Tevez as your strike partner, Dzeko should be off the mark by now.

Luis Suarez. Fernando Torres‘s replacement at Anfield, Suarez has a reputation for being one of the most clinical finishers in the games… not to mention a cheat (World Cup handball) and a biter (nibbled PSV‘s Otman Bakkal). On his Liverpool debut, Suarez came off the bench against Stoke to score his new club’s second goal and hit the post and the crossbar on his full debut against Wigan. Verdict: Hit. The Uruguan has yet to unleash the uglier side of his game.
