Low on Energie
A dangerous precedent

A rare moment of celebration for Energie fans
Energie Cottbus are the only club from former East Germany currently playing in the Bundesliga – and they are struggling to stay there. On Friday the club, currently second from bottom, went to Schalke and left on the wrong end of a 4-0 shellacking. But then Energie took the unusual step of offering a ticket refund to the travelling fans who had the unfortune of witnessing what even the club admitted was a “pitiful performance.” At first we were impressed with such a noble act, but then we realized the dangerous precedent it could set. What next? It’s a slippery slope. Don’t Newcastle season ticket holders deserve to get back the money they put up front for this season? And Spurs fans? Let’s not even go there.
