It will be interesting to see what sort of punishment is doled out to Real Madrid centre back Pepe after his slightly abbreviated appearance during last night’s clash against Getafe – a must win for Madrid who are just within sniffing range of leaders Barcelona.  In our view, Pepe earned himself three red cards – surely one of the game’s rarest feats. Consider the evidence: First… Pepe blatantly shoves Javier Casquero to the ground as the two of them sprint after a ball in the penalty area.  Second… Pepe swings for the ball, misses, and hits Casquero‘s leg during the follow through. He takes another swing, this time clearly aiming for the supine Casquero and not the ball, and rakes his spikes across the midfielder’s back. (Looks like he may have even been aiming for the head.) And third… as Casquero writhes on the ground in pain, Pepe marches over, leans down and drives his knee into Casquero‘s back. It all adds up to a potentially lengthy ban for Pepe – maybe until the end of the season.  The good news for Madrid is that they did escape punishment on the pitch, as they squeaked three precious points from Getafe with an Higuain injury time winner.
