Blues Force the Issue

Today’s London derby, dubbed ‘the Champions League 3rd place play-off’ by Arsene Wenger. saw Chelsea demolish Arsenal 4-1 ending the Gunners 21 match unbeaten run in the league and handing them their first Premiership loss at home this calendar year. In the last 5 days home fans have witnessed two consecutive thrashings at the hands of supposed rivals. Facing a 4th season without silverware and sitting a hefty 15 points back from league leaders Manchester United, surely its time for Arsene Wenger to delve into the transfer market in search of experienced and proven defenders to supplement a core of youthful, exuberant, attacking talent.

In the Chelsea corner, the Blues faithful spent much of the 90 minutes bellowing out passionate renditions of “Que sera, sera”. But the prospect of an FA Cup triumph tastes bittersweet following what still feels like a European injustice. While Drogba weathered the boos from the home support, his disinterested approach to the play may have finally signaled his departure from Stamford Bridge. As the whistle blew for full-time, Chelsea players and fans celebrated a brief moment of salvation in front of an Emirates crowd long departed for home.
