Scolari: The Wheels Have Come Off

One little news item almost sneaked by us without our noticing: “Luis Felipe Scolari named coach of Uzbek side Bunyodkor.” Pardon me? The man who won the World Cup with Brazil and was coaching one of the top five club sides a mere four months ago is now going to Uzbekistan? How the mighty have fallen.

Scolari has coached in Kuwait and Japan. So why not Uzbekistan?

Although, on second thought, perhaps it’s not much of a surprise. After all, Chelsea Football Club has built up a bit of a reputation for derailing once-promising careers and ending those that are well more established. Think back to Brian Laudrup, Chris Sutton, Asier Del Horno, Mateja Kezman, and lest we not forget…Andrei Shevchenko.

Considering that, maybe Big Phil hasn’t done too badly.
