Hat Trick Hero: Jermain Defoe

The Tottenham striker kicks off this season’s hat trick sweepstakes with his stunning triumvirate during Spurs’ 5-1 hammering of Hull City on Wednesday.  It topped off an incredible week for Defoe, in which he scored five goals for club and country.  As Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said, “His form is electric at the moment.”

1^st goal (10): Defoe latches onto Tom Huddlestone’s pass and buries a straightforward, but well-placed shot beyond Hull keeper Boaz Myhill.  Rating:  7

2^nd goal (45): Defoe beats Hull defender Michael Turner before driving the ball into the back of the net.  Power, movement and incisive finishing.  Rating:  8

3^rd goal (90): Defoe saves the best for last, throttling a half-volley during injury time from the top of the penalty box past a shell-shocked keeper.  Rating: 9
