Cup Violence Shocks Football

Horrendous scenes of football hooliganism returned to Upton Park last night as West Ham and Millwall supporters got to grips with each other on and off the pitch.

In scenes reminsicent of the dark days of crowd violence from the 1980s, one man was stabbed in the chest outside the ground and 10 arrests were made as police continue to hunt down the culprits.

The Carling Cup match, which eventually ended in a 3-1 Hammers victory, was stopped several times as crowd disturbance spilled on to the field of play leaving both managers and sets of players stunned by the events.

In a post match interview, Millwall boss Kenny Jackett added, “There were no Millwall fans on the pitch. They stayed where they were supposed to.” Kenny, you might want to revise those statements as a gang of your lot spent the night in an East London jail cell.
