Part 1 kicks off with one of the highest positioned players on the hate list, Robbie Savage. Over the years Savage has gained notoriety as a dogged no-nonsense defensive midfielder often involved in spats with opposition players and fans. Savage started his career in the Manchester United youth team but never made a first team appearance. Prior to his signing at Derby County in 2008, he had spells at Crewe Alexandra, Leicester City, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers. His energetic and aggressive style of play has landed him in the sin bin on a number of occasions. On one instance referred to as “Poogate”, after being substituted for Leicester, Savage used the referee’s toilet and later claimed to have had a stomach bug. The Football Association charged him but he was not fined or banned. Savage holds the dubious distinction of being the player who has collected the most yellow cards in the Premier League. At every ground in the country Robbie Savage is heckled and harassed, often with home fans getting in on the act.
