Although Liverpool started the new season with a disappointing two losses from their first three matches, football fans know that with a fit and in-form Fernando Torres, Liverpool possess a player who can drag them to the summit no matter how tall the order.  Torres’ superb treble against this year’s whipping boys Hull City, his fourth for Liverpool and third in the Premiership, thrusts Rafa’s men emphatically back into the mix for silverware and reminds football cynics of Liverpool‘s threat.

1st goal (12): Receiving a pass from left winger Albert Riera, Torres’ quick change of pace frees up space for an expertly taken low drive beyond the reach of Hull keeper Boaz Myhill. Rating: 8

2nd goal (28): With the scores tied at one apiece, Yossi Benayoun splits the Hull defense for Torres to dribble inside the retrieving defender, coolly round the keeper and hit an outside of the foot shot into the empty net. Cue Anfield crowd in raptures. Rating: 8

3rd goal (47):  Playing on the shoulder of the last defender, Torres beats the offside trap and races on to another Benayoun through ball, before cutting on to his left and smashing a snap-shot into the corner of the net.  Rating: 9
