Hat Trick Heroes: Robbie Keane

Hat Trick Heroes: Robbie Keane

Having seen Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch grab the headlines with their recent hat trick heroics, Spurs captain Robbie Keane knew he had to re-confirm his importance to the team in the face of growing pressure over his selection. Scoring 4 goals in a 5-0 demolition of Burnley, Keane led Tottenham to their fourth 5 goal match tally of the season and cemented his position in the side in style.

1st goal (18, pen): Burnley centre-back Andre Bikey miss-times his challenge on Jermain Defoe in the box allowing Keane to open the scoring with a confidently taken right-foot spot-kick into the bottom of the net. Rating: 6

2nd goal (74): Keane’s second, Spurs’ third. Latching on to a hard hit pass from Aaron Lennon on the right, from 15 yards out Keane smashes the ball first time into the roof of the net. Rating: 7

3rd goal (77): Completing his hat trick with assurance, Keane runs on to a high cross-field ball from midfielder Tom Hudlestone to lash a left-foot drive back across goal into Burnley’s side netting. Rating: 8

4th goal (83): Who better to help grab your first ever four-goal tally than the very keeper who let them all in. A miserable day for Burnley’s Brian Jensen ended with a routine Keane strike slipping between the keeper’s legs, striking the post and dribbling over the goal line. Rating: 7

Note: Keane’s lowest goal rating out of his four strikes, 6 for his 1st goal, was eliminated from the hat trick aggregate calculation.

Hat trick aggregate: 7.33
