Sixth Week Conclusions in the Premiership

Liverpool end draw days. The Reds got off to a miserable start to the season losing two of their first three fixtures. Since then they’ve re-asserted their challenge in the league, scoring 16 goals on the way to 4 straight victories. Liverpool lost last season’s title by drawing matches they probably should have won. This season they are converting those draws into wins by scoring bag-loads of goals.

Burnley’s Hull dream is fading. Following impressive back-to-back, 1-0 wins at home to Man United and Everton, the Clarets were being hailed as the new Hull. But we’re not even sure they’ll last until December, which is when Hull’s remarkable form nosedived. In their last 4 matches, Owen Coyle’s men have lost 3 and conceded 12 goals in the process.

Everton’s season is back on track. 4 wins from their last 6 league matches, including 3 clean sheets in a row, sees Everton climb up to ninth place and finally shed the memory of star defender Joleon Lescott’s acrimonious departure to Man City.

Robbie Keane’s a fan of Irving Berlin. Not content with matching the hat tricks scored by strike partners Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, Robbie Keane pulled a line from Berlin’s 1946 classic “Anything You Can Do,” by going one better and notching a fantastic quadruple against Burnley.

Wigan strike gold with Hugo Rodallega. The Colombian livewire, snapped up by Steve Bruce in January from Mexican team Necaxa, is finally showing signs of becoming the next hot South American import to arrive at the DW Stadium… and presumably get sold on for an inflated fee. So far this season, Rodallega has found the back of the net three times in crucial victories over Aston Villa, West Ham and Chelsea.
