Hat Trick Heroes: Aruna Dindane
Portsmouth fans have had very little to cheer about this season. A record-breaking losing streak to kick-off their campaign coupled with persistent ownership rumours has seen Pompey become every punter’s bet for the drop. Goals have ultimately been the problem on the South Coast, with the club netting only 5 in 10 matches prior to Saturday’s Wigan encounter. Step forward new kid on the block, Aruna Dindane. The exciting loan signing from Lens. Didier Drogba’s strike partner for the Ivory Coast. And the new Fratton Park terrace icon. The skilful and dynamic attacker might just be the man to drag Pompey out of the relegation mire as his three goals against Wigan delivered their first home win of the season and a ray of hope in their fight for survival.
1st goal (35): Dindane opens the scoring 10 minutes before half time after running on to a defence-splitting pass from Michael Brown and delicately dinking the ball over advancing Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland. Rating: 8
2nd goal (64): Following a period of sustained Portsmouth pressure, Dindane latches on to a perfectly weighted Kanu cross to stab the ball home from two yards. His second and Pompey’s third. Rating: 7
3rd goal (90 – penalty): A perfect afternoon for Paul Hart’s men ends in style when new hero Dindane confidently dispatches a penalty after Kanu is blatantly tripped in the area by Emmerson Boyce. Rating: 6
