Either they already know something about their pending transfer ban that we don't or Ancelotti has confused his words. I would venture to say that they will be hit the hardest in terms of quality of players lost to the African Cup of Nations. I expect them to bring in somebody in January because I don't think Ancelotti will be there next season if the don't win a trophy this year. It may be Villa which would spell the end of Anelka's time there I imagine, but it will be somebody. I really don’t see how they cannot buy in January.
