With the transfer window officially open for business, each new day brings with it a spate of far-fetched player rumours. This week’s jaw-dropper comes courtesy of The Times for suggesting that Real Madrid are on the verge of pouncing for Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic (as if Sir Alex is going to ditch his best defender when more than half his backline are in the treatment room!) But one player’s name that continually crops up when transfer season hits full swing is none other than Emile Heskey.

We can’t believe it either.

Apparently, there are so few powerful, experienced and affordable target men in the game that Heskey, despite enjoying his most prolific spell nine seasons ago scoring 22 goals with Liverpool, is still considered a viable option. The 31-year-old former Leicester starlet is currently warming the bench at Villa Park, and has been for some time. But with the January sales threatening to blow up in the coming weeks, Heskey could see his season turned upside down and (whisper it) playing European football and even World Cup football.
