3D is Coming to Football

3D is Coming to Football

The plans are for ESPN 3D to broadcast at least 85 live sporting events during its first year, starting with the opening match of the World Cup – South Africa v Mexico – on the 11th of June. Up to 25 other World Cup matches will be broadcast – and we assume those will include the World Cup final and USA v. England, which would probably have been the most-watched soccer match in U.S. history anyway. Now there’s another reason to tune in. How this technology will actually be applied remains to be seen. Will the entire broadcast of a game be in 3D… or just certain segments like replays and close-ups? And what about those glasses? The missus already takes the piss out of us after an afternoon on the couch watching football – and now we are just going to look simply daft.

The 3D football revival begins in South Africa

Steven Pienaar might actually look like a decent player in 3D

  1. Ha ha. I feel sick just looking at that photo. Can’t wait to get my specs on for the WC.
