Adebayor Isn’t the Only Player From Togo

Am I missing something?! Lives have been lost, families have been ripped apart, football careers have been destroyed. Does this not warrant a line or two on your website? And the few news organizations that did cover the story tended to frame it this way: “Togo team bus was attacked. But Emmanuel Adebayor is okay. End of Story.”

Granted, Adebayor is probably the only football player from Togo that most of the world would recognize, but it’s embarrassing that we wouldn’t give a damn about the other lives on that bus. I’ll leave the debate to others about what this terrible incident means for the World Cup in South Africa –or the political future of Angola – but the way that this story has been treated by the media so far is simply a disgrace.
