Contenders for the Liverpool Job

Rafa Benitez is a Dead Man Walking.  The only thing that’s saving him from the sack is the fact that Liverpool do not have enough money to pay out his contract and hire a decent replacement.  Otherwise, he would have been axed the second after Liverpool were dumped out of the FA Cup by Reading.  Maybe this summer, after Liverpool end the season missing out on a spot in the Champions League, the club’s owners will realize they have no choice but to start afresh.

The contenders for the hot seat are already lining up…

The Sure Hands: Guus Hiddink. The Dutchman has already hinted his interest in the Liverpool job, and he has proved he can manage in England after his turn at Chelsea last year.  But Guus would first need the consent of his friend (and current paymaster) Roman Abramovich – and it’s unclear whether the Russian would be willing to let such a top manager coach one of Chelsea’s main rivals. Odds 5-1

Hiddink's Chelsea success could hamper his prospects

Crossing Roman Abramovich is a lesson not worth risking for Hiddink.

  1. Rafa will stay FACT, the only people who want him gone are the usual clueless armchair pundits who wouldn’t know football if it bit them on the ar5e.

  2. He will stay until the summer. If they miss out on a top 4 spot he’ll be off. He did promise as much. They’ve been awful this season and you can’t argue with his poor summer transfers… Aquilani, Johnson.
