Contenders for the Liverpool Job
Rafa Benitez is a Dead Man Walking. The only thing that’s saving him from the sack is the fact that Liverpool do not have enough money to pay out his contract and hire a decent replacement. Otherwise, he would have been axed the second after Liverpool were dumped out of the FA Cup by Reading. Maybe this summer, after Liverpool end the season missing out on a spot in the Champions League, the club’s owners will realize they have no choice but to start afresh.
The contenders for the hot seat are already lining up…
The Good Gamble: Luciano Spalletti. Highly respected by many in the game, especially for the exciting style of play that he brought to Roma. After quitting Rome, he curiously popped up in Zenit St Petersburg, but his talents deserve to be in a more high-profile job. Could that job be Liverpool’s? Maybe. The biggest sticking point would be his complete lack of English. Odds 80-1
