Twentieth Week Conclusions in the Premiership

Benefits of a winter break. As a result of severe weather conditions, only two of last week’s Premiership fixtures were fulfilled. Manchester United tied Birmingham and Arsenal drew with Everton. Chelsea‘s match at Hull City has since been postponed to early February. With an extra week to re-charge their batteries, the Blues returned to action on Saturday by thumping Sunderland 7-2. During a period when Chelsea‘s rivals were hoping they might have a little wobble, Carlo Ancelotti‘s men looked confident, inventive and dynamic, displaying their best performance of the season.

Mancini’s honeymoon is over. After four wins on the trot, victories Mark Hughes could have arguably achieved, Roberto Mancini faces his first real test in English football. Manchester City‘s away form this season has been patchy all season with all three of their losses coming away from the Eastlands. If City are to become real title challengers they will need to start winning at places like Goodison Park and the DW Stadium.
