Four Reasons Why Wayne Rooney is the Best Player in the World
Wayne Rooney stole the show again last night as Manchester United defeated AC Milan at the San Siro 3-2. Rooney bagged two expertly taken headed goals as United extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches in all competitions. But are we surprised? Despite losing Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer, United still remain in the hunt for trophies. The reason behind their insatiable form? None other than Wayne Rooney. The former Toffee hitman has had a stellar campaign with United and England and must surely now be regarded as the best player in the world.
Here’s four reasons why…
The Lion Heart. What makes the best player in the world? Well for one, you’ve got to be able to cut it for club and country. Wayne Rooney is England’s one indisputable world class talent. The driving force behind his country’s qualification for the World Cup, with Rooney in the team England are one of the favourites in South Africa, without him they need a miracle.
Champions League endorsements. It’s no surprise that club manager Sir Alex Ferguson repeatedly hails Wayne Rooney as the best on the planet, that’s like your mum saying you look handsome. But if you toss in another Champions League winner’s recent comments that Rooney is the “best player in the world,” something the Carlo Ancelotti would know a thing or two about watching Didier Drogba day in and day out, surely two masters of the modern game can’t be wrong?
Never say die. Of the 21 goals that Wayne Rooney has scored in 25 Premiership appearances this season, more than a quarter of them have been notched in the last ten minutes of a match. Wayne Rooney‘s fitness levels and hunger for success are phenomenal. If he’s not got the ball, he’s chasing it down. His never say die attitude stands him apart from his contemporaries.
Fair play. Despite his extraordinary success in top flight English football, Wayne Rooney is still only 24 years old. Although a mean streak threatened his early days at Old Trafford, since the birth of his son Kai in November of last year, Wayne has been a model professional picking up a mere four bookings in 23 fixtures.
