World Football Star in Car Crash

Manchester United‘s Cristiano Ronaldo escaped unharmed from a high speed car crash yesterday morning. At approximately 1020 GMT, Ronaldo crashed his Ferrari in a tunnel beneath the Manchester Airport. Onlooker Jody Lomax who happened to be driving behind Ronaldo when the crash occurred said, “the Ferrari went straight into the wall, his front left-hand wheel came off and then Ronaldo got out of the car.” At the time of the incident, Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar was driving his Bentley behind Ronaldo but was not involved in the crash. A United spokesman said of Ronaldo, “He was involved in an incident this morning. No other cars were involved. He is fine and is training as normal with the team this morning.” Following the crash, on the scene, Ronaldo provided a negative breath test quickly.

Today officers indicated, as part of a routine inquiry, that they would be contacting Ronaldo regarding the incident and questioning him in an attempt to understand what events led to the crash. Greater Manchester Police are also appealing for any witnesses to come forward and provide valuable information.

While Sir Alex Ferguson is thanking his lucky stars that his talisman escaped from the crash unscathed, deep down he must realize that this event has disrupted preparations for Sunday’s big Premier League clash against Chelsea. Surely Cristiano Ronaldo, with the incident fresh in his mind, must not be totally focused on the job at hand.
