Beckham’s £100 Million Payout

Beckham’s £100 Million Payout

According to a 2006 article in the TimesDavid Beckham took out an unprecedented £100 million insurance policy in the event that an injury ends his football career. He also gets the payout if he suffers a disfigurement that causes irrevocable damage to his image.

At the moment, no one knows if Beckham’s ripped Achilles actually will spell the end of his professional playing career. His surgeon in Finland, Dr. Sakari Orava, is optimistic that his multi-million-pound patient will recover from his injury and return to the field one day. But other physicians have gone on record to say that there is a small chance that this type of injury doesn’t heal well.

Bottom line: We’ll all just have to wait and see.

Although you’ve got to imagine that deep down in his heart of hearts Beckham is maybe kinda sorta hoping his injury is career-ending. After all, right now he faces a long road to recovery involving weeks on crutches and then months of frustrating rehabilitation. And what’s his reward at the end of it all? A spiffy corner locker in the LA Galaxy dressing room.  Nothing against the Galaxy, but it’s not hard to see Beckham wondering whether it’s all worth it. He’d probably rather take the £100 million check.

I hope he does play again but If this is true and in case he never gets on the pitch again professionally, I just wish he would invest any capital in Man United, the club where it all started, instead of a MLS franchise.

As he is a lifelong Man United fan and academy player, he could eventually be a member of the board, like Sir Bobby Charlton. We all saw him at Old Trafford recently and the reception he got. His legacy in football and place in history would be more secure and respected. What do you think?

You don’t understand Beckham very well. He already has more money than he could ever spend, and would play the game for free if it was at a high level.

I believe he paid the Galaxy money out of his own pocket in order to play for AC Milan and further his international career. Which meant leaving his home and family for a long period to boot.

Eh up, Becks should take the cash. He’s rubbish and despite what robert says money is super important to becks and posh.
