Go, Rafa, Go …and Take the Spaniards with You
For all the buzz and acclaim about the style of the Spanish game, only three Spaniards actually own a Premier League medal. They are Gerard Pique, who made a grand total of 12 appearances during his four years at Manchester United during the middle of the decade; Asier del Horno, a member of Chelsea’s 2006 title-winning season who was shipped off back to Spain as soon as the Blues signed Ashley Cole; and Arsenal’s Jose Antonio Reyes who arrived in London halfway through Gunners’ title winning season in 2004 and left a couple of years later because he was homesick.
Three Spanish players. Not one of them real game-changers during their time in England. Simply put, the Spaniards might lead your club to a Champions League final, but they won’t win you the Premier League.
Manchester United and Chelsea have both found success by signing the best international talent and grounding it with a strong English spine. Liverpool (and Arsenal) need to do the same if they want to win the league. They need to clear out the Rieras and the Ayalas. And they need a manager who is willing to build a team around the best that Britain has to offer. Clearly Rafa Benitez is not that man.

I see his agent is claiming that Rafa turned them down in January.
You would have to imagine Rafa will sit tight and wait for the sack and his payout.
Then again, he could be trying to up the stakes with Juventus.
After all, I’m sure he could only claim the whole of his compensation from Liverpool if he didn’t work for the remaining 4 years on his contract.
Could he be trying to engineer a one-off payout to go?
I’ve said it before, Rafa would be perfect for Italy.
