Jose Mourinho Takes Italian Football Back to the Summit
Inter Milan haven’t reached the European Cup Final since 1972. But 38 years after losing 2-0 to Ajax in Rotterdam, the Nerazzurri stand 90 minutes away from collecting their third ever title.
Thanks to Jose Mourinho, Inter and Italian football are back in business.
Barely weeks after reporting Italian football was in danger of losing its 4th Champions League spot, Inter Milan, led by Portuguese Champion Jose Mourinho, have guaranteed Serie A does not fall off the radar any time soon.
After defeating the current European Champions Barcelona over two legs, Jose Mourinho‘s masterful tactics have brought acclaim back to Inter and more importantly, Italian football.
Jose Mourinho‘s impressive run with Inter this season has seen the Italian champions oust perennial favourites Chelsea from the competition and now take the scalp of the best team in Europe. Despite conceding a late Gerard Pique goal at the Nou Camp and soaking up a tense period of Barcelona possession, Mourinho’s side did what they were instructed to do: dive, time waste, foul. Never beautiful, but always effective. And that’s what Jose Mourinho is all about.
Football purists prayed all night for Barcelona to exhibit the type of attacking flair that has exemplified the team since Pep Guardiola took charge two years ago. But Lionel Messi never found his feet. Xavi never took control of the attack. And Zlatan Ibrahimovich once again failed to show up on the big occasion.
In the end it was all about winning. And winning ugly is the Special One’s speciality. Forget Messi at the Nou Camp, bring on Bayern at the Bernebeu.
