Dirk Kuyt: World Cup Winner?!
You might point to Maradona in 1986 or Ronaldo in 2002 – but those are exceptions to the rule. They’re not going to win it this year but when it comes to the World Cup, the safe money is on Germany every time. The reason is that Germany‘s players always eschew individual glory and work for each other everywhere on the pitch. It’s a big reason why they continually reach the deep end of the tournament while other teams like England always leave early scratching their heads and pointing fingers at each other.
The oversized egos of Madrid’s galacticos, Nike’s pitchmen and Vanity Fair’s centerfolds have taken quite a bruising over the past month. With any luck, the Rooneys and Ronaldos of the game will enter next season with the feeling that they have something to prove. Let’s certainly hope so.

Will Dirk Kuyt really become a World Cup winner?
