A Fix for Arsenal’s Goalkeeping Problem

A Fix for Arsenal’s Goalkeeping Problem

There’s no doubt that Wenger has an eye for unearthing talent (…or nicking it away from Barcelona !)  But goalkeepers are clearly not the Frenchman’s strong suit. He inherited David Seaman when he took over the club, and later bought Jens Lehmann, who performed competently until he had a falling out and was pushed out of the club two years ago.

In the interim, Wenger has test-driven Richard Wright, Rami Shaaban, Alex Manninger, Manuel Alumnia, Lukasz Fabianski all to no avail.  It now seems as if Wenger’s short-term plan is to seek solace in a dependable veteran while he waits for his young Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny to come good. Of course, it might also signal a more significant change of philosophy for Wenger, who has been continuously criticized for an overreliance on youth.  Are the supporters finally getting through to “The Professor?”
