Martin O’Neill Leaves It Too Late For England
There’s no doubt that Fabio Capello‘s star has faded dramatically over the past 8 weeks. Earlier in the summer the Italian was a God. Now, Capello wouldn’t even get a job in the Championship. When Capello sat down to face the press, we didn’t want an apology or any empty promises. We wanted answers. Why were England so poor in South Africa? Why did team spirit suddenly fall apart? Why did you bring on Emile Heskey against Germany when England needed goals? Of course Capello had no answers. Instead we left fearing that Capello is unwilling to learn from his mistakes in South Africa. For the umpteenth time, Capello will pair Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in midfield against Hungary. The recalling of several fringe players who didn’t make the World Cup to replace several fringe players who did make the World Cup is not our idea of a ‘new’ England. And something is wrong with the England set-up when players, no matter how good, don’t want to play for their country (Michael Carrick, Wes Brown, Paul Robinson.)
On the cusp of another qualifying campaign, Fabio Capello has been gifted a chance to redeem himself. Ironically, Martin O’Neill, the man best suited for the job has just become available, perhaps a month too late.

Does Fabio Capello only have one look?
