Neymar Battles Pele’s Nostalgia

Whenever there is a Brazilian superstar at the crossroads of his career, you can be sure Pele is not far away. The Godfather of Brazilian football who has poked his nose in the business of Adriano, Ronaldo (the fat one) and Robinho in the past, has now set his sights on Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, or Neymar as he is more commonly referred.

Chelsea have been chasing Neymar for several weeks. With thirty somethings Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba not getting any younger, Roman Abramovich is determined to bring the 18-year old Brazilian forward to the Premiership and sees him as a integral component in the re-building of Chelsea‘s ageing squad.

Cue Pele‘s voice from the past. Pele came out of his cave recently and declared that Neymar should stay at Santos Futebol Clube, a nice seaside outfit an hour from Sao Paulo, and reject the advances of the Blues. Let’s not forget, Pele spent 18 glorious seasons at Santos before ending his career with the New York Cosmos. Back when Pele played the beautiful game, the Brazilian league was the dog’s bollox.
