Neymar Battles Pele’s Nostalgia

Neymar Battles Pele’s Nostalgia

Today, the quality of the Brazilian league can’t touch the competitions in Spain, England or Italy. Historically, the highest rated Brazilian players plying their trade back home become even better once they move to Europe. Look at how quickly Ronaldinho‘s star sky rocketed once he left Gremio for France. Or how Rivaldo‘s career jumped several rungs after he ditched Palmeiras for Spain. There’s no argument that players improve by playing against the best. Unfortunately for Brazilian football supporters, that’s not possible in the Brasiliero League.

Pele is living in the past (of course, with his past, who wouldn’t.) Protecting your own is one thing, hindering the progress of your fledglings is another. Neymar should embrace the moment, book the next flight to London and fast track his career a few notches.

Can Neymar carry the weight of Pele's expectations?
